What is a Mompreneur?
The term "Mompreneur" popped up in the late 1990s by blending "mom" and "entrepreneur." Basically, it refers to women who are balancing the challenges of motherhood while running their own businesses. Mompreneurs face the same hurdles as other business owners, but they also have to manage parenting responsibilities on top of that.
These days, more and more women are choosing to work from home and be both entrepreneurs and stay-at-home moms, which is really commendable. Sure, being a mompreneur comes with its perks, but it can also be tough to juggle everything that comes with the title. The good news is that it's totally possible to blend these two roles smoothly, but it does take a lot of hard work, dedication, and self-discipline to make it happen.
While being a mompreneur sounds like an ideal situation, it's not always as easy as it sounds. While you're working to grow your business and manage your home, you're juggling your kids, social life, and everything else that comes with being a mom. Over the years, I've learned that you can't do it all. You have to decide what is the most important to you and work toward that. The first step to becoming a mompreneur is to decide what kind of business you want to get involved with and how much time you will be willing to invest. This decision should first be based on your interests, values, visions, and the needs of your family.
"A mompreneur is a mom who is in business for herself, but not by herself. She embodies all that is possible when she honors her unique gifts and passions while living hr life fully and leading with her values. We are all capable of being mompreneurs, and we all have the opportunity to create and lead a business that reflects our true selves, using our skills and talents to give back."
Why do Mompreneurs feel they need to have it all?
It’s no secret that there is a lot of pressure on women to have it all. But these days, there is a new group feeling the pressure: the mompreneur. With mompreneurs, it is often not just the usual pressure to have a successful career, but also the pressure to have a successful business, be a good wife and mother, and have a good social life. Because mompreneurs are juggling so many things, this can lead to burnout, anxiety, and feeling overwhelmed. In today’s blog post, I want to talk about how you can align your values and vision to find the balance you want in your life. Everybody’s definition of balance is different, but to me, it means that I can focus on the things that are most important to me. I achieve this balance by making sure my actions are aligned with my goals which are aligned with my values that support my vision.
Many mompreneurs share the belief that it's essential to "have it all"—to juggle the roles of being a mom, a wife, and a business owner. While I wholeheartedly agree that it's possible to achieve this balance, it's equally important to be realistic about what we can accomplish in our busy lives.
Setting achievable goals is crucial. Take a moment to reflect on which roles matter most to you. As a mompreneur, being mindful of your choices can help you navigate your time effectively. Finding harmony between your business and family life is key, but it requires intentionality and self-awareness.
It's perfectly okay to pursue both a thriving business and a fulfilling family life. However, without careful time management, it’s easy to feel overwhelmed and head toward burnout. Remember, success as a mompreneur doesn’t mean doing everything at once; it’s about making thoughtful choices that align with your values. Embrace this journey, stay true to yourself, and you will find the balance that works for you!
When my triplets were young, it was difficult for me to balance working a full-time job, being a wife, and being a business owner. I needed to be very mindful of my time. To find balance, I needed to make sure that I was getting the proper amount of sleep, exercising regularly, prioritizing my day, delegating what I could, and saying "no". I had to find ways to manage stress so that it did not affect my ability to do all the things I needed to do. I think that moms need to be creative and find ways to balance their business life, home life, and personal life. It is important to set boundaries for your family and friends so that you are not pulled in too many directions at one time.
There are many things to consider when you are deciding what roles to balance. Here are some questions to ask yourself:
- What makes you happy?
- What is important to you in life?
- What do you want out of your life?
- How do you want to spend your time and what do you want it to be used for?
- What will make you a better mompreneur than what you are doing now?
- When you are working on a project or a business, how do you feel when you're done?
- What is important to you?
- What are you good at?
- How do your values and goals align with the roles and responsibilities of being a mompreneur?
It’s hard juggling the many roles of a mompreneur. You want to be successful in your business, but you also don’t want to neglect your family. How can you find balance? One way is to align your vision with your values.

Vision and Values
One of the reasons I started this blog was to help mompreneurs, who are often caught in the dilemma of balancing business and family. Many of them suffer from guilt, self-doubt, and a sense of failure. This is primarily due to a lack of direction, vision, and guidance. I wanted to write about the importance of vision and values in the decision-making process. I think if more mompreneurs focus on their vision and values, they will be more likely to make decisions that are in line with their values resulting in less stress and burnout. I have worked with many women who say they want to be a mompreneur, but then they get into the details of how they are going to do it and they begin to doubt themselves. So let's talk about values and vision and how they set you up for success as a mompreneur.
What is a value?
I look at values as something we want or need in our lives. It is a fundamental belief that guides how we live our lives. It may be something as simple as: "I want to be happy and healthy." Or it could be more complex like "I believe a good life includes loving my family, working hard, and being in nature. I want to be a good friend and a good listener." Or "I believe that it's not okay to lie, cheat, steal or manipulate." I think values are important because they are at the root of who we are. Values are the compass by which we navigate our lives. They help us make decisions, they determine how we act and react, and they influence our behavior. Values are what make us who we are. I think it's important to understand that values are not static. I think values are inherently dynamic and change over time. That's why I think it's important to have a good understanding of the direction we want our lives to take.
What is a vision?
A vision is a mental picture of what a business or person wants to achieve in their life. It is a picture of the desired future. Without a vision, there is no aim, no direction, and no purpose. A vision is a road map for the future of your business. Your business vision should be based on your values. It is what you believe in and what you strive for. Your business vision is your company's purpose, its reason for being. It has to do with who you are and what your business stands for.
Your vision is what guides you and helps you stay focused on your goals. But your vision must match your values. If not, you may end up feeling like you’re constantly sacrificing one for the other. Take a step back and figure out what’s important to you. Revisit the questions above to help you figure out your values. What are your core values? Once you know that, you can start shaping your vision around them. This will help keep you on track and make sure that both your personal and business lives are in alignment.
For many mothers, the idea of entrepreneurship seems like the perfect solution to achieving work/life balance. The freedom to set your own hours and be your own boss can be a tempting proposition, but it's not always easy to make it work. One important thing to keep in mind is that your vision for your business should align with your personal values. When you're clear on what's important to you, it's easier to stay focused and make decisions that are in line with your goals.
Creating a vision board is a great way to get clear on what you want for your business. Include images and words that represent what's important to you, such as family, travel, health, or financial security. Then revisit your board regularly and use it as a guidepost to help you stay on track.
Becoming a successful entrepreneur is no easy task. Not only do you need to figure out how to run your business, but you also have to figure out how to run your life. It's no wonder that a lot of women aren’t pursuing their dream of running a business. With all the responsibilities that come with starting a business, it's hard to find the time to be a mom, wife, friend, and more. A lot of women try to be superwomen and fail. It doesn’t make them failures, it makes them human. However, there is a way to be successful in all that you do without it affecting any of your responsibilities or roles. It’s all about figuring out how to align your vision with your values.
How to Align Vision with Values
There is no one right way to achieve work-life balance as a mompreneur, but finding ways to align your vision with your values is a good place to start. One approach is to create a personal mission statement. This can help you stay focused on what's important and keep you from straying from your priorities. Your personal mission statement should be a short, concise list of your values that shows who you are and what you stand for. You can write it down or keep it as part of your daily planner and goal-setting system.
Q: What is the difference between a vision and a personal-business mission statement?
A: Your vision is your ideal state for the future. It is a mental picture you have of what you want your life to look like. Your personal-business mission statement is a set of goals and ideals that you have for yourself that allow you to follow and achieve your vision.

When your life is a constant whirlwind, it can be easy to lose sight of what you want. I know, because I’ve been there. I’ve felt like I’ve been going round and round, trying to please everyone and getting nothing in return. I’ve felt like I had to work super hard to make my business work and to make a difference. I remember so clearly sitting in my home office and asking myself, “What am I doing with my life?” and feeling so discouraged. I realized I had to start making choices and decisions that aligned with my core values. I had to start making choices that were right for me. And you know what? The funny thing is that by making more choices that were right for me, I found that I was able to create more opportunities for myself, do more of what I wanted to do, and find the balance I so desperately needed in my life. That major shift in my mindset is what has brought me to you today.
As a mompreneur, it's easy to get lost in work and forget to maintain a healthy balance. Keep in mind, a business is nothing without its creator, which is why it's important to ensure the vision remains true to your values--and doesn't end up being something you don't want. The thing about our values is that they're something we cherish, something that we hold dear to our hearts. It's as simple as knowing what you value above all else and ensuring that you're aligning your business with that.
Aligning your vision with your values is just as important as having vision and values in the first place. When we're able to connect to our values, we can better understand how we can add value to the world. It also helps us to feel more fulfilled and helps us to make better decisions in areas of our life. It's quite easy to see how the benefits of aligning your vision with your values can be applied to the way you run your business.
Alignment of values, vision, and purpose is a cornerstone to success in any aspect of life. We align our actions with our values and vision, and we do what is right, not just what makes us feel good. It is only when we are clear on our vision, values, and purpose that we can be truly successful. This is not something that you can learn in a day or a year, but with commitment and daily practice, it will become second nature.
Tips for a Balanced Life
Many people dream of pursuing their own business, but they don't think they can because they have small children, or they have to work in someone else's business, or they're worried they won't have time to spend with their families. These people believe they have to choose between pursuing a business or a life. Well, the truth is, most successful business owners have discovered that you don't have to choose between the two. You can have your business and your life, too. The key is to start your business with a solid plan and understand the necessary sacrifices you will have to make. To have a successful business, you have to be dedicated and passionate about what you're doing. You have to be willing to roll up your sleeves and get your hands dirty. You have to be willing to work hard and be flexible. You have to be willing to give up some things, but you can also create the life you want for yourself and your family.
Conclusion
Being a successful mom and a successful entrepreneur is not an easy feat. Although it is possible to have both, it is important to know what your values are and to set your expectations accordingly. Regardless of how you choose to balance your life, it is important to set priorities, set boundaries, and find the support system to help you get through the day.
